I think the meaning of the rule is very clear

if you stop a team scoring by foul means, you get sent off. Had he played advantage, no ref would have then sent him off for it, because he wouldn't have stopped them scoring.

re the del horno one - every time I've seen it I've thought the same, which was that Del Horno swung for the ball, missed it and the follow-through took him into Messi. You think it was deliberate, obviously. One's a red, one isn't. Don't see how anyone can be so sure what was in Del Horno's mind.
