Worried that it would paper of the cracks; that not getting promoted might shake things up; that it might result in Webber leaving the club, etc. But even if those things happen, what then? Maybe Attansio would put in more money, but would have thought that more likely if we went up, and in its absence we potentially face an eve more depressing season next season.
If we went up I suspect we would have the kind of season we all fear i.e. embarrassing losses every week as we've had the last couple of seasons in the Prem and finishing the bottom of the table, but at least we would have a bit more money for the following season and perhaps it might even tempt Attansio to put some money in. It's all academic, of course, because there is next to no chance of us going up now: not going to be easy grabbing one of the play off spots + it's hard to see past either Boro or Luton going up via those.
So only option now, I reckon, is a huge clear out (including of Webber) and change of approach back to how we used to do things. Forget looking abroad for players and instead go for up and coming youngsters and players from lower leagues just as we used to.
Whatever we do and wherever we end up I think we're in the worst position that we have been for quite a few years (perhaps since 2009) and so drastic changes are needed at the club.
PS morning all and happy weekend eve, eve!
