He’s certainly got a bit smarter.

However let’s look at it another way. We have had a right back better than those we had before him for a long long time (possible exception early Russ Martin), for most games each season for the last 6 seasons.

He is consistent, both in strengths and weaknesses, he is rarely injured, he doesn’t tail off in the later stages of the game. He is very professional, and has done the above without ever really having had strong competition for his position to spur him on.

And he cost peanuts as a youngster.

Of course the fact that he hasn’t turned into the next Cafu might be disappointing for some but for norwich it’s probably a better outcome that he seems to have plateau’d where he has. If he had got much better then he would have been at another club for the last three or four years and I very much doubt we would have been able to replace him with a player any better than Aarons has turned out to be right now.
