It’s about the partiality in how they exercise that right

They have never led news items on, or sacked, presenters who have made pro Govt political statements. And yet several have.

This Govt has routinely used the threat funding cuts in order to influence how the BBC is run and editorial policy, and this whole episode is just one example of how that manifests itself.

So there are two issues arising out of this - one being the lengths certain tranches of the media will go to in order to distract attention from some odious policies. The other being the extent to which the BBC is doing the Government’s dirty work for it.
