I think you are probably in a minority and its as much linked to the fact that

we can access the highlights of league games pretty much instantaneously anyway.

But yes perhaps if they are replaced by someone awful if makes a difference.

In the case of the BBC, however, they have a number of very competent sports presenters who could and i'm sure would do the job for a fraction of the cost.
