Chase ran a very tight ship, until he didn't (freebies for all to Milan)
Successive managers were able to replace stars with new heroes (Bruce>Linighan; Drinkell>Fleck>Sutton; Gordon>Fox) until they weren't (Fox>Adams, Ward>Sheron)
Chase was unlucky in that his era saw the need for new infrastructure (stands, infills, training ground). He maximised the grants but there was always something else needed replacing or upgrading.
