IMHO this will be controversial but......

I think we should regard Todd as a financial success.

Not at the end (but it never is for most players)

But he did help us win promotions and was a valuable squad member at times who was brought through.
The cost to buy such a player would have been substantial.
Value is just not in the players you sell but players who play and don't have to be paid for with a transfer fee.
