In praise of squad players (and why our players aren't all "s**t")

Been a lot of discussion after the couple of losses about how the squad was poor and that it needed gutting and refitting.

Acknowledging I'm a glass half full kind of guy - I've never felt comfy with that generalisation & I think that the gap between views probably isn't as wide as (typical internet) polarisation sometimes paints it.

I certainly think that the lads could use a hand.

But the value of having the likes of Onel, Dowell, Idah, Gibson, Gunn, Dimi at our disposal really shouldn't be underplayed.

I suppose I think of the dominant Man U teams of peak Ferguson era. They always had a solid half dozen players in the squad who could be drafted in, do a job, knew their role and would help the 'stars' shine. Most of them did beggar all when they were sold on, but their value to those sides should not be underplayed.

I'm not saying we should build a side around em, or that it might not be time for them to move on. But the idea of a mass cull risks (for me) throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
