I do agree that there is some wisdom to ..

The thought that luck is often involved, but part of winning a lottery is actually buying a ticket.

Most people's life plan never involves buying a ticket so they have zero chance of being successful/rich/independent.
The skill is taking the risk in doing your own thing rather than following the herd mentality of the 9-5.
In some cases that can involve just using the 9-5 to achieve early retirement through hard work and shrewd investing....all the way up to being a Bill gates or Elon Musk.

In every case a "plan" is involved to achieve the goal.
Most people don't have a well thought out plan or the risk/reward ratio is incredibly piss poor.
Look at all these countries who want to continually move the retirement age higher and higher.
If your plan is to depend on that....good luck.
