EV is actually a major part of the solution

Yes they are currently expensive given most manufacturers' determination to provide mostly top of the range SUVs in electric form. Prices will drop (2025 will see them dip below fossil fuelled equivalents) and used prices are already coming down - Tesla prices seem to have moved the furthest so far. But the big thing here is the ability to balance the grid. You can charge the EV at low use times when prices are cheapest then run your house from that energy during the day, taking the strain out of the grid at peak times and lessening the likelihood of cuts. The car will be seen as a mobile energy hub and when added to a solar array will act as part of a micro grid. These stories are applying 1970s scenarios to now when the very near future is an exciting place!
