That the rot has really set in throughout the club. The rot is the mirror opposite of the magic X factor that makes all everyone pull together, put self aside for the benefit of the team and makes the final output so much more than the sun of the parts. We have the magic under Lambert, then again under Farke.
I think the rot is now everywhere, running through the club from top to bottom. People are not buying in anymore and it’s affecting everything from single tiny little micro decision taken on the pitch to massive decisions off the pitch. There’s no trust, no solidarity, no willingness to fight, get hurt, go the extra mile. Fuck this, we’re screwed anyway, no way I’m making that pass, or going in to that 50:50, as we never score late goals anyway and my team mates are a bit useless. The fan disconnect is part of the rot too, as is Webber’s “if 90% of me isn’t good enough I’ll walk” bulls**t.
Once a club gets the rot, it’s so hard to shake off. Our rivals down the road had it for years and it’s taken several resets to get to the point where they are finally challenging in Lg 1. We had the rot for years and years before Lambert arrived.
Whoever the new manager is will need to be a massive personality to get rid of the rot. And we might well need to jettison a lot of the current squad and basically start again. Honestly, I don’t think the new manager has a chance - miracle needed. I’ll be surprised if we even make the playoffs from here.
For today, our only hope is that Watford have a worse case of the rot than us. Given that our recent record against Watford has been appalling, not confident. At all.
