My recollection is it was more than grumbling

Loads - unless I'm getting confused with the 2nd season - were complaining of being bored to death, binary football, spend the whole game chatting to mates instead of watching the game.
The 10th placed finish is stuff of dreams now, but he got little credit for it and it certainly gave him little credit the following season amongst fans.
