I personally don't think at the time appointing smith was a bad decision. Although I didn't want him after what he done at villa only weeks before.
But the board probably saw him as a safe bet to keeping us up and went that way with the decision. He should have been let go when the season ended. And a complete refresh and preseason with a new manager.
He played s**te football in the prem and that has came down to this division when with the squad and players we have should be doing a whole lot more.
