PM BWOD - Edinburgh knowledge needed...

I have, rather impetuously, bought tickets to see The Killers in that there Edinburgh (Highland Arena as it happens) for a Tuesday night at the end of August.

We'd like to make a week out of it and would like to, if possible, take the fenton.

If we take the dog it will be car. But what other travel options are there (sans dog) - re: train or plane? and am I going to have to sell a kidney to pay for said transport?

Also, if we wanted to stay in a cottage, what are the nice coastal areas, preferrably not too far from edinburgh (cause we might have to leave the dog for an evening).
