As a more casual cricket fan, albeit a lover of test cricket

I think it’s brilliant. The old orthodoxy of always making sure you can’t lose led to so many situations where tests going in to day 5 were nailed on for the draw. Theres still just the joy of watching cricket, but that’s nothing compared to the exhilaration of a finely balanced match, where either team could push for a victory. If this becomes the tactical norm, it will make test cricket much more exciting.
