the one with the shoulder narrowly off. I think there should be a margin of error built in, which favours the attacker.
Players don't have to be going full speed in opposite directions - only their legs (or shoulders!) do for example. So if the attacker and defender have opposite stride patterns then it's not all that unrealistic to have relatively large differences.
