Obviously has got tetchy all round

Have no quibble with paying for news or media, but the bar for quality content is quite high.

Local press has long been run into the ground (have a few friends who worked in it and bailed out to steadier careers.

Used to be a regular reader of the pinkun. Don't bother now. The editing and standard of their free articles is awful. It's their shop window.

This article is a long, meandering whine which highlights to an extent why the relationship has broken down in both directions.

There's been a gradual shift in recent years (all press) towards opinion pieces, as the actual news is usually broken by other media streams now.

Opinion pieces only work if they are (very) amusingly written, or in some way informative.

Local press can do great retro pieces. I'm a huge fan of the slow news movement.

I get the argument that fans should have the chance to hear what has happened at the AGM, thing is, there'll be numerous reports available very quickly, and freely on social media.

I get that it's best if it's impartial, as far as possible. To go back to the opinion pieces, the problem is that the pink un has moved away from being an impartial news reporter - they're now very much taking a slant, which weakens their argument.

On a conceptual level I understand and agree. In a practical sense, unfortunately it won't impact me at all, as an ex reader.

As a firm part of their target audience, it'd be handier if they spent time pondering why I'm no longer a reader and less moaning about why things have changed.
