I think the way it sadly got hijacked by bigots who don’t understand the meaning.

Always proudly wore a poppy.. Then the extreme right poppy police turned up and somehow made it about hatred rather than respect. These days I don’t and also won’t be displaying a st. George’s cross outside the house during the World Cup for the same reasons.

I quite honestly feel robbed of my culture by these “patriots”.

Probably also didn’t help that we had a few unjust recent conflicts (invasions etc), and I think the poppy’s message was more about sacrifice in defence rather than assault.
