the huge imbalance between the clubs at the top of the pyramid and the vortex below, newcastle but the latest absolute piss take. and without wanting to belittle any worthy cause because god knows they are important but every single game seems to have a cause to bow down to and surely one of the main reasons people go to games is not to be force fed whatever worthy cause is on the sky sports agenda. the taking the knee wen of far too long and it actually depressed me that some morons still chose to boo it. then there's the endless black armbands minutes silences/applauses, national f**king anthem, yada yada all rammed at us every game. i say this as an ex soldier but even the poppy day/armed forces day depresses me. if i want to mourn our glorious dead (and i do) i go and do it at an appropriate place.
layer all that ^^ big chunk soup of depression with a big dollop of a disinterested tone deaf sporting director and some dire football and the huge bonfire of prem money we've burnt to a cinder, over season it with a cost of living crises and putins ego yada yada and it's easy to see why there's empty seats.
p.s. i liked what aston villa did re their fans who had passed away during the year, they just had one big minutes applause before the last game of the season and flashed up the pics on the big screen of those that had "gone to the great holte end in the sky" no awkward applause game after game for folks most people never knew anyway just one act of collective respect at the end of he season, job done. going to the football is about getting the f**k away from the grind of daily life, it was anyway now it's just an obscene unfair mawkish cesspit, and it's live.
