You can have a succession strategy and then throw it aside if someone better becomes avail

able, surely.

Not saying that's what happened here (either that Smith was 'better', or that Webber did have a strategy). But just because he did something different doesn't prove he was bulls**tting. I'd want any strategy to be flexible enough that you'd throw any particular plan aside if there was a reason to.
