As I have posted before, it is a small town and hemmed in by other teams

With Arsenal in particular being first choice for many locals. In addition:
- there is a relatively large population of south-Asian extraction who tend to be less interested in football, particularly with the World Cup match on
-Watford is a dormitory town full of people who have no family base there (as was the case with me when I lived there)
-these matches have often been caught up with violence in the town, so some will have chosen to stay away, particularly those with smaller children
