yep, he was very bullish when Farke was sacked that the squad was good enough

but keeping Smith after such a pitiful relegation is surely a tacit admission that actually the players weren't up to it.

Admitting also that Smith wasn't the right appointment would represent a double failure for him. Unfortunately, instead of facing up to it, he just seems to be acting like he doesn't care. He's been acting like someone who gambled, knows he has lost, and has thrown in the towel.
