If I was going to change anything about the basic rate of income tax

I'd probably have raised the threshold at which tax is paid, to help lower and middle earners (helps everyone a bit, but not disproportionately higher earners like a % cut does).

But I'm not an economist, or a politician, and I'm not really sure what I'd do faced with this clusterf**k of a world tbh.
