Bailey called it too. How do you maintain that desperate hunger to make the Prem when you’ve been there done that, made your money, know you’re not really good enough to go any higher? This squad is good enough to make the playoffs regardless. Any competent manager would get that out of them. But too few still have that eye of the tiger to go higher. I’m not calling anyone out as being totally on holiday, but far too few really, REALLY really care THAT much anymore.
Add in all those excellent points down below about squad imbalance, square pegs playing round holes, and it makes the lack of turnover in the summer all the more surprising. But that comes back to genuinely utterly s**t recruitment last year, that blew all our dough, left us without the right mix of players then and now, and in many cases with players we could now only move on at a huge loss. All of these factors are coming home to roost.
