Re Nordstream sabotage. Would Russia really blow up these pipelines?

Their gas is leverage that they have over many European countries. It brings their economy alot of money. They can just turn it off and on as and when they want to. For them to blow up the pipelines and cause enough damage to them to have them out of action for a long period of time, just doesn't really make any sense to me.
