I’m not sure it was that difficult to understand that the uncomfortable peace was largely helped by “buffer zones”.

Was already a bit of a risk expanding EU/NATO to Poland and the Baltics. And then the lack of response in 2014 and before that to their intrusions into Georgia must have given Russia a bit more confidence.

For the last couple of decades Ukraine has been the only remaining political battleground between Russia and NATO. At least in europe.

Not defending Russian aggression which is horrendous especially in this day and age but the question was how might the west have contributed

I wonder what would have happened if the west had sat back? Would Ukraine if fought so vehemently or would it have been over peacefully? Would Russia have stopped there? I think they would. At least in europe.
