we get two thirds into the season and we are top, while still looking a bit rubbish every single game yet still winning, that will become an identity and I think we would be loving the way we are being slated in the press yet constantly finding ways to win. In a similar (yet different) way to Stoke when they were accused of looking more like rugby (singing Sweet chariot etc).
But so far we haven’t really found that identity and so all we can see is a team who can get beaten every game and a few fans are concerned about it.
I suppose it’s harder to adjust to as under Farke the identity was so strong - a bunch of unknowns, misfits, lower leaguers thrown together and playing sexy football with success (in the championship) while seemingly all being best mates.
Add to that the relative ease with which we’ve won promotion and that we are now also in a promotion spot, and a rare phenomenon occurs - norwich fans expecting promotion and looking at current performances in the context of what would happen post promotion. Knowing we are not a club who can spend 150m on players, I think there might be a fear of even bigger humiliation again by dropping a Dean Smith norwich into the premier league with just one or two signings.
Regarding Smith though - I don’t think we can blame him for a lot of our players who have just spent years playing Farkeball nicely, win or lose, suddenly forgetting how to accurately pass a ball. That has mystified me.
