If they're still unfit by the time it starts, Sven can drop them and call up replacements. However, if you drop the injured guys now and they come good, it's too late, you cant call them back up. Likewise if you drop a midfielder now, and the crocked guys come good, you've cut down on one of your midfield options for no reason and cant call up any replacements.

Its actually a reasonable gamble by sven to include the crocks. Though in Rooney's case, I think extreme wishful thinking.
