It takes a particularly cynical person to have thought that, in the face of ever rising energy prices that would hit the poorest families hardest, that a Tory government wouldn't act to depress prices at the expense of the country's elite. Any government with a heart was going to subsidise or cap the cost to consumers.
And even if, for the sake of argument, we suggest that a Tory government might not care very much about the poor and might care only for the rich, you'd have to have been naively trusting to think that a Tory government wouldn't grab an opportunity to find a way of supporting their mates in the energy industry by socialising losses with tax payer cash.
Taking s fix was taking a gamble that the Tory government would be both cruel enough not to care, and honourable enough to not try to bung their mates some bunce.
And that, I suggest, would have been completely the wrong gamble to take.
