He’s said current squad not up to it, we’ve feared being battered since pre season, this is where we are and not competitive unless we bring in new players.

He must have known when saying this that there wouldn’t be any new signings. So where do you go from there? The board have no option but to fire him.

Same as if smith came out tonight and said the squad isn’t good enough, we’re not going to make top 2 without new players before the deadline. If the board aren’t planning on making new signings, smith would be toast.
