I did some work a few years ago at NWI for Air Malta. On the final flights of the season

Each year (October) there were always a few older folk who were going for the winter, due to come back in March. Even then they said it was cheaper to switch off the utilities at home and stay in a cheap hotel for the winter. I remember one chap saying he paid 20€ per day, B&B for 4 months.
