I totally get the we’ve been experimenting. That it’s about fitness mostly. That he’s made players train hard before some games, so we played while knackered. And that we’ve sometimes had three teams across 90 mins, so of course there’s no continuity. Totally see all of that.
But guess I’m still worried that Smiffy and Shakey have now had a lot of time, and I still don’t have an idea how we’re trying to play. What kind of team are we aiming to be? Are we retaining possession? Are we getting it out wide? Threading it? I hear we’re looking to press high, but I’m not sure I’d infer that from what I’ve seen. How are we lining up in midfield? Are we going to develop a clear plan A formation? Or are we going to change every week (4 at the back, 3 at the back, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2)?
I’d struggle to answer any of these questions right now, if a fan of another team asked me what to expect from us this season. And that just feels…. Unsettling. I have nothing but blind faith - hope - that it will be okay against Cardiff. Beyond that, nothing to go on.
I hope we’re great next week. But no clue what to expect. I retain the option to wet the bed next week!
