I agree, but....

In the 70s the tories did well in cities (Brum, Newcastle etc) but now are nowhere.

They won't win an election by being strong in the South alone as they have hardly any MPs in the North, Wales or Scotland. They need to realise that seats need to be won out of the traditional Tory seats in the countryside. Until that happens they won't do anything in a national election

Even with a hung parliament they'd have little say, as a Lab/Lib alliance is likely to form (as in Scotland)
