Transfer Policy

Worthy has gone on record in the past that he doesn't see the point in buying a player in May only to pay him to sit on his backside all summer. Here's a few benefits to buying early:

We get in early and get the players we need to mount a serious challenge next season
The player(s) has a chance to come down, check out the area and get himself (and family) settled before the season starts
He gets a full pre-season with us and is fit for the new season
We don't get caught out by the closing of the transfer window as we have been for the past three seasons and find ourselves without a full strength squad. The abortive late summer attempt to sign Morrison last season was a classic example of this.
We are not then forced to bring in loan signings at great cost who have no affiliation to the club and aren't really fit anyway

Just five small points that both Worthy and the Board might like to ponder over the coming weeks. I think part of the problem is that Worthy likes to go away on holiday in May/early June. He is too much of a control freak to allow anyone else to manage the transfers so everyone has to wait until he returns before any work is done. I would imagine the likes of Burley and the Burnley manager can now go off on their hols safe in the knowledge that they have started their summer spending and things are already starting to take shape for next season. I expect Southampton to be a force next season once Burley has had a chance to mould the side a bit more. As for us, we are looking more and more like a mid table side with each passing week without any signings.
