Had the effect of it temporarily years ago.

Was at a gig where the volume was excessively loud.
Usually the ringing goes by the morning, however after this gig the ringing in my ears continued for a week or more. I was getting worried as I thought I'd permanently damaged my hearing. So glad it finally went and totally empathise on how it must be if permanent.
Not sure it's something you ever get used to.
