Top scape-goating by the club

Bit like a junior government minister having to fall on his sword to save his boss.

Unless it's all down to his heart, but if it was why wouldn't they say so - gives them a ready-made reason which everyone would sympathise with? Which is why I don't think that's got much to do with it.
