But it’s been so “meh”, which is even worse for me.

Agreed about the bleak Hamilton era, the club was in a big old mess, and objectively was much worse, but for some reason I felt much more hopeful.

It’s the hopeless feeling that I hate. What have we got to look forward to? Being back in the championship and getting promoted again? Hmm, not very appealing.
