The energy to charge them has to come from somewhere.

The vast majority of cars on the road have just 1-2 passengers riding.

These Aptera vehicles use about 15% of the power per mile as Teslas do, so with just 700W panels they can charge enough per day to give a 40 mile range to top up the battery.
Even in countries with limited sunshine you still get a lot of free miles every day.
With Teslas, panels never made as much sense as you only get a few miles of solar charge per day.
