Be interesting to see what he does with the role

It's purpose seems to be to set direction and appoint the main coaches - so it's hard to make any judgement until he puts those in place.

Like Hussain, he seems to talk sense as a pundit - but I'm a bit dubious about anyone who has only done punditing as a post playing career (though if it's role is mainly media relations then I can see the value).

In those sort of roles the main job will be to get a great top team, pulling in the same direction, with a better balance between the management of the various sides.

I wonder who is on his mental shortlist - hopefully there are some good ones who'll want to work with him.

But like with Dean, it feels a bit of an underwhelming appointment, but hopefully he can show a clear plan (and I think the interim job that Strauss has done has successfully cleared the decks for him to try a real reset - (Broad, Anderson & Root all put back in their boxes as valuable senior players, but with no guarantees for any of them)
