it is for the individual to decide if, being wealthy enough to have a tax bill worth getting expensive advisors to spend time thinking creatively about, it is right that they should be able to exploit loopholes that weren;t intended to voer their particular situations.

No-one has any real problem with the moderately well off using up their annual ISA allowancs or pension contributions etc etc.

that's a bit different from someone who has nothing to do with (say) the movie industry suddenly investing in lots of tax efficient film investment schemes that were intended to boost the film industry rather than save a footballer or banker a bit of tax.

Legal (or was thought to be at the time) but ethical? That's for the individual to decide. I have no problem with society deciding that such things are morally objectionable and trying to shame people into different behaviours.
