Oh go on then, since you're keen, i'll bite.

I totally disagree.

This is not about having a week off in the Dordogne. Going up Everest will require a huge amount of time consuming training and then a lot of time out.

He's an executive board member with critical business responsibilities, not a NED doing a couple of days a month. This is at least a full time job, and typically these roles come with a prodigious call on your time. Especially during key periods of operation. He's not running the accounts team, and it's alright because Angie knows it all inside out so he can f**k off on a USAC cruise for a month.

And no, picking up a few email on his Blackberry is not an acceptable substitute to proper engagement. Many of the decisions he's taking will require a lot of discussion, research and analysis, and will be finely balanced. Many decisions could have huge ramifications for the club. Sure he's not doing all of that work first hand, of course not, but I would expect him as the person ultimately responsible to be across all relevant detail in order to inform these big decisions. This is quite literally his job, for which he is incredibly highly paid.

As to your invite to get in the real world. I can tell you that in my line of work, if I told people I fancied going part time and taking a big chunk out of office entirely just as we were entering a pivotal/busy phase of work, people would look at me like I'd lost it.

If he's not actually doing the job and Adams is, then fine, tell us that. But that is not what we have been told. So for all these reasons, I'm baffled that he's decided to do it, baffled that the club said yes, and think the optics of it are dreadful.
