Maybe it is the first one I've watched live or something, but have they always just had "the computer" just make it up as it's going along?
All a bit strange. In England's case we should have had a nice easy draw vs Saudi Arabia as the last team but after two changes cos "the computer" didn't like it we end up playing Scotland/Wales/Ukraine (none of which are good options for us).
Presumably the reason seems to be that they don't want two s**t teams from the same federation in the same pot in case they both get knocked out. But it's fine to have three European nations in the same group. So essentially the result is that they spread the s**t teams around and there are no more groups of death.
Maybe it has always been like this and I haven't noticed and it's just the luck of the draw (and "the computer").
Also, the opening game has a different kind of pressure around it. Historically there have been some big upsets in that game. But then they just change the game to suit Ecuadorian TV times, meaning that now The Netherlands and Senegal have to open the tournament.
All seems a bit dodgy to me.
