So when I was a kid growing up in the 70s and early 80s I was really into CB radio and later Amateur radio.
Loved that stuff. It was magical listening to signals coming in from all over the world.
FWIW the Peter Gabriel song "Here Comes the Flood" is based on the strange noises heard over short wave radio.
With the recent increase in sun spot activity I Installed a multiband CB radio in my car (the kind of set up I could not have dreamed of as a kid) and have been having all kinds of fun talking with people all over the world.
Last night alone I talked with guys in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, all over 5000 miles from my home.
I know with the invention of the internet this doesn't seem as special as it once did but it just seems amazing that I can produce a signal from the car that can be heard that far away. I did also hear very briefly Brisbane, Australia last night as well.
