I suppose Stokes might just be expressing disinterest out of diplomacy

But I'm not sure that picking him as captain because of lack of alternatives is particularly sensible, yet more pressure on him.

I'd be looking at Broad and Anderson. I'd quite like to see Anderson do it; been around long enough to know the game, and I've a feeling he might be effective in a surely kind of way. Plus he sort of deserves the honour of it, even if just for summer whilst we work out what the hell is going on.

I suspect that Root might come back and have a second stab at it after a rest. And perhaps do a better job once refreshed.
