We were told that we had a gentleman's agreement with him

That if he stayed in that champs season we'd let him leave if a reasonable bid came in.

He did. We did.

There's the debate about whether that was the right choice too, naturally.

I think both parties did okay out of that arrangement.

But then I think the choice was really whether we sold him when we got relegated last time, or how we did it.
