And yet the players, who singularly failed to carry out his express instructions to play with passion and win every game will be cheered to the rafters as they do their lap of 'honour'.
When NW led us to promotion, do you honestly think he was saying something different to the players in his pre-match talk ? Was something different being put in their half time cuppa ? Of course not.
And at 3pm it is the players who step onto the pitch. It is they who have the final say as to whether the team plays with spirit or folds into yet another tame away loss. And in my humble opinion it is the players who should be held accountable for what has happened this season.
After all, they won their last 6 home games. Where did that form suddenly come from ? The tactics were similar to before, but it is the last 5% - that extra effort, will to win, call it what you will. And it comes from them.
I am personally sorry that the manager has the vast brunt of criticism thrust apon him. I know it is the nature of the beast, but that doesn't make it right.
