I don't know why this has been taken with surprise.

Junky w**kers have been injecting other junky w**kers since IV drug use first started. I knew a girl a number of years ago who took IV speed (and anecdotally smack, but I never saw her take it) and couldn't stand to inject herself, but would have her boyfriend do it. Not unusual by any stretch of the imagination.

And as you say, assuming it's smack on no evidence is a bit rich.
