What role suits him?

I've seen all his home games for us. I must be missing something. Is Gilmour such a precision piece of engineering that he only works in specific ultra-niche situations yet to be devised in a Norwich City football team?
Seems to me he can only operate effectively when surrounded by world class team mates or playing in overated international football.
