Premier league needs re-modelling

It’s a sad situation when a self funding club cannot even compete to stay in the premier league.

The league blows its own trumpet about being beat in the world. Maybe the quality of football in top six but it’s woeful in terms of competitiveness and surprises.

Even the great under dog Leicester title, a pleasant surprise was not a self funding club. They had millionaire owners.

The American model of a wage cap would sort this league out. Imagine city having to see two thirds of its squad and fill with kids and players from the championship. Everyone including self funding clubs could genuinely dream of having success.

We know it will never happen. The pathetic non punishments of the rebel prem clubs proves this. Do you think the owners of the big clubs will ever want a system where they might finish 14th rather than guaranteed a top six almost regardless of ow they are coached and how well they play? Not a chance.

I commend Norwich for sticking to the self funding model. If delia sold out to someone like the Saudis I would take no joy in rising to a top team because it would have been bought pure and simple.
