UEA are doing a long term study. At the moment it’s a bit patchy - there’s

been no research on woman players at all for example and most likely it will impact them even more. I think once it’s crystal clear, it will be difficult to ignore.

At the moment no one is interested in hearing it. The FA, PFA and EPL are not keen on sponsoring the research. Players live for the moment (Gossy was very good at describing how quickly he would return from injuries). Teams need the competitive edge. Apparently the Spurs manager has already said he won’t be following the FA guidelines. Chris Goreham was really good at drawing out the moral dilemmas. Players strike a bargain – they get paid extraordinarily well to do a job they love but it comes with risks.
